I got into mental health because I was fascinated by the science of the brain and the art of helping people to change. But while I was intrigued by the idea that there were chemicals and electrical signals that formed the basis of our thoughts and feelings – I always felt that the change had to be more than just a prescription for a pill; it had to involve holistic and organic change in our thoughts and behaviors.
As the saying goes, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Well, that’s because the old dog’s brain has continued to do the same things over and over again and gets stuck in a rut. You get someone to change by getting them to do a new thing over and over again until the new is the normal.
